A grant proposal was developed to obtain funding for enhanced transportation for older adults in Long Beach, California, who desire to volunteer. Older adults are the largest growing population in the United States. The unique needs of this population have been identified; however, resources to meet their needs are limited. Transportation was identified as a significant need among older adults. Lack of transportation leads to social isolation; social isolation has shown to have a negative impact on an individuals' physical and mental health. Productive activities, such as volunteerism is one way in which to combat social isolation and promote healthy aging.
