Thesis (Ph.D.)--The University of Wisconsin - Madison, 2004.
This study examined the transfer effects of improvements in oral reading fluency. Participants were 12 eighth grade regular and special education students. The effects of two approaches to reading instruction, Corrective Reading Decoding instruction (Engelmann et al., 1999) and Literature instruction, were compared to determine whether type of reading instruction resulted in significant differences in word recognition accuracy and reading speed on passage reading tests from both the Corrective Reading Decoding program and the general education science textbook. Four nonparametric Wilcoxon matched-pairs tests yielded no significant differences. However, limitations of this study due to the matching process, sample size, duration, and test sensitivity leave lingering questions that beg for future research.
