The demand for multimedia security has increased dramatically in recent years due to the popularity of related applications. Take Video on Demand, for an example; the entertainment industry loses billions of dollars for not well protecting the movies. One of the best ways to protect multimedia data is through encryption. However, as the computing power increases dramatically, data encryption is not as safe as people used to think.

When data needs to be encrypted, it can be classified by its importance and the nature of the data. Because of the characteristics of multimedia, they make the encryption even more challenging and complicated. The concentration of this research will be on applying different encryption algorithms to multimedia data focusing on YUV and MPEG4. The encryption algorithms will be applying include Blowfish and Safer, and the result will be measured in the metrics of the encryption efficiency and the security level.
