This study was guided by six research questions: (1) How do the strategies vary among the caregivers regarding children's learning to read? (2) How do the strategies used by caregivers relating to children's learning to read affect first grade reading success? (3) Does the nature of the relationship of the caregiver to the student affect reading success? (4) Does the amount of time spent in learning strategies by the caregiver affect the students reading success? (5) What are the age, gender, educational attainment and the nature of relationship of successful students' caregivers? (6) What do the children expect from their caregivers in order for them to continue to be successful readers?

The findings discuss the strategies being used, and the way they were implemented by the caregivers. The students had daily routines at home that helped enhance their reading abilities. The caregivers' relationship to the students, the amount of time being spent on reading at home and children's expectations from their caregivers were also discussed. This study determined that the strategies being used by the caregivers were similar, and they were all effective in producing successful first grader readers.
