My research investigates the practice of teaching in a mainstream classroom when an English Language Learner (ELL) is present and the implications. A general overview of leading literature on language development was consulted including a survey of literature regarding brain development, assessment, policy, culture, and best practice. My exploration into the subject of teaching an ELL consisted of qualitative inquiry set up as a 10-week case study to determine the authentic make-up of a classroom with English Language Learners and the tools required of a teacher to achieve success in such a setting. My analysis is a representation of the daily follies and triumphs incurred throughout the process of teaching. After careful examination, it was found that the key to educating an ELL and all students is the refinement of practice and the pursuit of resources that will aid in the development of all participants of the classroom.
