Anxiety towards aging and health promoting lifestyle was examined in women age 50 and over who were members of the Red Hat Society. Two hundred and twenty-one participants ranging in age from 51-88 years were recruited from approximately seven Red Hat chapters and two Red Hat conventions in northeast Pennsylvania. Two study instruments were utilized in the study: Anxiety Towards Aging Scale (AAS) and the Health Promotion Lifestyle Profile II (HPLP II). Additionally, a survey of 11 demographic questions was included. Pearson correlations, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), frequency distributions, and descriptive statistics were completed to answer the research questions and subproblems. Significance levels were set at p<.05.

520 $a Upon examination of the correlation matrix, a negative correlation was found between anxiety towards aging and health promoting lifestyle. Furthermore, the demographic variable of education demonstrated a significant impact upon the HPLP II; otherwise, the remainder of the demographic variables did not demonstrate a significant difference on either AAS or HPLP II.
520 $a One must identify and understand attitudes towards aging in order to positively impact the older woman's aging process. Moreover, health promotion lifestyle will be important as longevity increases. The results of this study may offer a strategy to impact anxiety towards aging and thus influence health behavior change.
