520 $a The purpose of this qualitative study was to gain a better understanding of the consequences of driving cessation for older adults' quality of life. This study was designed to identify key characteristics and themes found in older adults after driving cessation. A researcher developed interview guide was utilized to assess the attitudes and beliefs of driving cessation among older adult, 65 years and older.
520 $a Findings suggest that older adults feelings towards driving cessation overall, are negative. It was found that driving cessation greatly affects many areas of an older adult's life. It is an important determinant of how an older adult perceives their independence. Loss of independence, loneliness and isolation were common themes brought up by the participants. It was found that the participant's ability to adjust to driving cessation was influenced by the circumstances for driving cessation.
