The purpose of this study is to describe and discuss the changes in the psychological journey of amputee before and after the prosthesis is assembled, so as to understand what factors that make the difference in mental condition of patients before and after the amputation. This study used In-depth interviews of the qualitative research by one-on one engagement with individual participants. Aiming to collect detailed information beyond initial and surface-level answers, researcher interviewed with 9 amputation patients between the ages of 21 and 70. The reasons for their amputation are mostly due to diabetes, peripheral arterial blockage, car accidents and accidents.According to the results of the interview, it is concluded that patients with amputation due to chronic diseases couldn’t accept the fact that they were about to lose their limbs at the initial stage when the doctor decided that they need to undergo amputation. Most of them relied on the encouragement and accompaniment of their relatives, friends or caregivers to slowly accept their current situation. On the other hand, when describing their psychological journey, most patients who need to be amputated due to a car accident or other sudden external force said that they knew their feet could not be saved because of the incident or shortly after the incident. Due to the fact that they were forced to accept the reality in a relatively short period of time, they were better able to face it with a positive attitude and accept their new identity as a disabled person. The willingness to assemble prostheses and re-learn standing, walking... and other actions is also relatively higher than those who with amputation due to chronic diseases. This study provides a glimpse into the amputee's mental state of being highly inferior before the prosthesis is assembled, but with the help of systematic training courses, prosthetic wear and use counseling provided by the prosthetic company, and after seeing many amputees like themselves, they generally have a positive change in their outlook on life and the future. Not only that, they will take the initiative to share their cases with patients who also have amputations and encourage each other. It can be seen that assembling a prosthetic limb is not only an external aid to the patient, but also can substantially affect their mentality and help them face the future life.
